A lot of people spend time
talking to animals but not that many people listen. That's the real problem.
- Winnie the Pooh-

Owner
"I
am passionate about dogs and our relationships with them. My life has
been so incredibly enriched by the dogs and their humans that I have met
through the work that I do. For me, teaching dog training is all about helping you have the relationship you want with the
dog you have. On the whole I think dogs make much better followers
than leaders and it is our responsibility to guide them. I have been studying dog behaviour for
over 20 years and on the way I have
been blessed to have had the support and encouragement from some of Canada's
finest trainers and teachers
Carolyn
Clark, Heather
Logan and Bob Ottenbrite.
I am committed to continuing education because our level of understanding of dogs, their behaviour, our behaviour and our relationships with them is constantly improving. To that end I and our very fine staff attend a variety of educational events every year. Most recently I was in Cormier Village in September for an exceptional 3 day seminar with extraordinary California trainer and Obedience competitor Denise Fenzi.
I was the first Certified Professional Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) in Nova Scotia through the Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers, an independent testing organization. I am a professional member and Regional Director of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers as well as the CKC and the Pictou County Kennel Club and did I say, I really like dogs?
Call me and lets talk about you and your dog.

Until
becoming a co-owner of Good Dog Works! with Alex I spent many
years as the Director of Finance for two municipalities in Nova Scotia.
Prior to that, I was
involved in the administration of non-profit organizations including a women's
centre, a transition house and an Inuit organization, and was on a number of
boards; non-profit, communities & national, as well as provincial government
boards.
So while I may
know finance, policy, and systems, I was clearly lacking in some certain kind of
education, as the universe dragged me into the dog world having decided that my
five children had done their best, but I clearly still needed more ‘raising
up’. Dogs have become my greatest teachers and grounding place, and
they are gracious enough and patient enough to allow me their company and
guidance. I
have a P.C.T
(Pet Care Technician) diploma from Pet Care Services Organization and attend
educational events frequently. Live and
Learn!
Last winter I also had the incredible experience of being the contractor for the development and creation of our new building!

Sonya
joined Good Dog Works! in 2006 and has been with us ever since.
She has great energy with the dogs and
the humans and is a study in patience and she's absolutely full of common sense.
Sonya
attended the CAPPDT Annual Educational Conference in Fredericton in 2009 and a
‘Stress and Aggression Seminar’ with Silvia Jay
in 2010. She has attained her St John’s Ambulance Pet First Aid
and she
recently completed her P.C.T. (Pet Care Technician) exam with top marks.
At
home with her partner she has a delightful Rottweiler named Oland, a Basset
Hound named Booker and an elderly
cat,
Kinker.

Penny has been bringing a wealth of information to our training classes for five years. Her fascination with training and her ongoing experience in competitive Obedience and Rally Obedience as well as a lifetime of Siberian Huskies and currently 2 Nova Scotia Duck Tollers, Hector and Ginger gives a real depth to our classes. Always interested in exploring new activities with her dogs Penny has taken Tracking with Lucy Newton and now Agility with Sarah Leblanc. Penny is also a tremendous asset in Daycare with her knowledge of dog body language and dog management skills.

Amy
just loves dogs! She is our groomer and also works in daycare.
She is gentle, good natured, hard working and has a positive attitude.
Amy recently attained her St John’s Ambulance Pet First Aid
certificate. She and her partner share their home with Tia, a Shih Tzu/Lhasa
Apso now taking agility classes and Lance, a Beagle mix.
