Dog Obedience training class with distractions outside

Setting you and your dog up for success!

It's all about the relationship!  Our dog training program aims to be both fun and effective for people and their dogs and at the same time gentle and mutually respectful.  The approach is based on an understanding of how dogs learn and the fundamental thread is that reinforcement builds and maintains behaviour.

Positive but not permissive our dog training classes help you get the  behaviour you want from your dog while you develop a willing training partner and become a team.  We use a sound followed by a reward to let your dog know they got it right!  This engages both you and your dog in the learning process. Doesn't that sound like fun already?

Who Should Train the Dog?

All family members are invited to come to class.  Children under 8 must be accompanied by another adult.  If younger children are part of the family an adult can train the dog and then the children can ask for behaviours once  the dog has learned them

Basic Good Puppy-for puppies under 16 weeks old with current vaccinations

Get Family and Puppy Off to a Great Start!

Puppies are so sweet when they are young and sleeping that it appears they may not need training!  Soon they will be teenagers!   Introduce and socialize your young puppy while they learn to rely on you and develop good manners in a gentle and effective way.  They will meet friendly strangers, play with other puppies and see weird objects all in a fun, positive setting.  Learn how to address housetraining, biting, crates, chew toys, barking and find out what you can reasonably expect from your puppy at this age.  Prevent problems before they arise. You will learn how to teach bite inhibition as well as sit, come, lie down, off and walk on a loose leash.  Owners will learn training techniques as well as management tools.  Why wait?  Train now!  Fun for the whole family!

Reaching For A Higher Level

This 7-week class at Good Dog Works! builds on the obedience foundation you created in Basic Good Puppy and Basic Good Manners.  We are demanding more from our dogs.  This class has an obedience aspect and a more playful aspect.  In obedience we will increase the distractions while we teach our dogs to; come as fast as you can! Sit politely while the owner greets another person who also has a dog, Heel, and Stay while a ball rolls past your nose.  In the more playful part we will learn to teach our dogs some fun things like put your toys away, ride a skateboard, ring a bell, pull a wagon, or even walk on their front feet.  It's all tricks to your dog!  This mental problem solving can help tire a dog out!

This advanced class takes training to another level.  This dog training class is designed to meet the training goals of the students in it, whether therapy dogs, Canine Good Neighbour, Rally-O, Obedience Trials or just a night out doing fun things with your dog!  More emphasis is spent on polishing your skills as a trainer - your ability to break down behaviours, analyze the current behaviour being offered, and improve your creativity and timing.  We will spend more time teaching our dogs to learn while we increase the distractions.  Class may be held in a variety of locations including on a sidewalk or on the Samson Trail
