Q: I have questions about how to get my puppy to stop jumping on people and what to do about housetraining, not to mention how to get my shoe back! Will we be covering these kinds of topics too?

A: Yes. The skills you'll be learning are really a set of tools that you will be able to apply to all kinds of behavior you want to change or create.
Q: I don't have a lot of time to train. Is there going to be homework? A: You bet! Dogs learn by repetition. You can come to the weekly classes and learn a lot about dog training, but it's what happens at home between the classes that will make the difference in your dogs behaviour. Short training sessions everyday can make a considerable difference. How about training during TV commercials or you can use the time that you already spend with your dog say at the end of their walk or before a grooming session or when you feed your dog-- in fact, you can use their food for training.
Q: I want my kids to train my dog, so the dog will respect them. Should I have my son or daughter go through the training? A: That would be great. Interested children 10 and older are often excellent trainers. With younger children I believe it speeds things up if an adult teaches the dog a behaviour first and then has the children teach the dog the behaviour. Children under 8 must be accompanied to class by a second adult.
Q: Can my partner come too? A: Of course! All family members are welcome to come to class. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a separate adult.
Q: I may have to pull out halfway through class. Are there refunds or makeup classes? A: No, sorry. We limit our class sizes to make them really valuable to the participants, and don't offer refunds or makeup classes. But if you do have to withdraw from class, I'll still give you the homework handouts, and will answer questions via phone. Perhaps private sessions would work better for you.
Q: I notice that dogs don't attend the first class. Why not? A: The first class gives me a chance to talk to you about how dogs learn without being interrupted by furry excitement. You'll be much more relaxed and be able to absorb what I'm explaining. It also offers everyone a chance to share experiences and ask questions. The first time that all the dogs attend is understandably a bit chaotic because the dogs are all distracted and excited.
Q: I have some additional questions. Can I call you now to ask them? A: Of course!
